Since its inception with German assistance nearly four decades ago, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has contimued active technical collaboration with several German Universities in the areas of topical interest.

In the past few years, environmental issues such as Ozone Deleption and Global Warming have attracted significant attention over the world. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which have been widely used in Refrigeration and Airconditioning applications, were identified to be the major causes of these degoratory effects on the environment necessitating worldwide ban on such substances

This project adresses some of the important aspects and impacts of the ban on CFCs imposed starting from the Montreal Protocol. Particular references are made to Refrigeration and Airconditioning applications relevant to India and Germany.

Emphasis is put on the following three research fields:

New working fluids for heat pump applications

Heat pump assisted Drying Tunnel

Occurence of Pinch Points in Zeotrope Condensers and Evaporators

Refrigerant Database
